The Swan Surgery provides specialist clinics and treatments to help with particular aspects of your healthcare. Your doctor or nurse may refer you to a specialist clinic and will advise you whether the treatment is available to you under the NHS or whether you will be seen as a private patient.
Many specialist services are available – if you need treatment that is not listed here, contact us to find out if it is available at the surgery.
Vasectomy, mole or cyst removal and other minor surgery
You can arrange to have a minor operation with a qualified surgeon at the Swan Surgery. Travelling to the surgery in Bury St Edmunds may be more convenient for you than getting your operation elsewhere.
A vasectomy may be provided under the NHS and no matter where you live, you can choose to have your vasectomy in Bury St Edmunds. Other minor operations that are required for medical reasons may be also available under the NHS.
Asthma, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), epilepsy and coronary heart disease
If you have a long-term medical condition, as a registered patient your health and the progress of the disease will be reviewed annually. You will be called to a specialist clinic for a regular check-up to review your medication and treatment.
Flu, hayfever and other seasonal illnesses
If you are registered with the practice and you fall into the group most at risk from flu, you will be called for an annual flu vaccination. Otherwise, you may request one. If you require treatment for hayfever or other seasonal illnesses, you may be treated at a specialist clinic.
Stay healthy if you travel
If you intend to travel abroad it is advisable to contact the surgery at least 8 weeks before your date of travel to find out what preventative medicines or vaccinations you may need. You may be asked to attend the travel clinic to receive treatments that will protect you from the diseases that could damage your health.
Stop smoking!
If you are trying to cut down or stop smoking altogether, the Swan Surgery’s clinic can help you take effective measures. You will receive support and advice to help you prepare to quit and then stay stopped. The surgery may also prescribe nicotine replacement therapy.
Control your weight
If you are trying to lose weight, this nurse-led clinic can provide you with a weight loss programme that includes slimming and/or exercise on prescription.
NHS Health Checks
NHS Health Checks are offered to patients between the ages of 40 and 74. The check is to assess your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes. If there are any warning signs, then together we can do something about it. By taking early action, you can improve your health and prevent the onset of these conditions. There is good evidence to support this.
