How Does Swan Surgery Use Information Technology?

The Swan Surgery uses a number of IT systems that allow us to provide you with a better service and make us more efficient. Using IT means we can reduce our use of paper.

EMIS
EMIS is a clinical computer system used widely by GP practices throughout the UK. We use it to keep our patient records. Any information we hold about you is entered and stored on this secure system and only authorised staff members can access this information. 

EMIS Access
EMIS Access is an internet-based service that allows you to make an appointment to see your GP and to order prescriptions online.

Lab Links
The Lab Links system provides us with an electronic link to the local district general hospital. Using this link, laboratory results are sent from the hospital direct to us so you can get your test results quicker.

Choose and Book
The Choose and Book system allows us to book appointments on your behalf when you need to be referred to a specialist for further medical care. You select which facility you want to go to for the treatment and choose when to go – your GP can make the appointment immediately. All the doctors at the Swan Surgery use the Choose and Book system whenever possible.

Touch-screen arrivals system
The touch screens in the surgery’s reception area provide an alternative way of confirming your arrival for an appointment. You can use these to book yourself in if the receptionist is busy.
