Practice set up by Dr. Crispin Dunne as the only doctor

1998

Consultation rooms added to surgery buildings. This allowed the surgery to expand the number of practising partners to 4

2001

Practice incorporated as part of the Cambridge graduate course for medical students. Trainee doctors on the 4-year course are trained jointly by Swan Surgery, West Suffolk Hospital and Cambridge University

2002

Surgery pilots PMS (Personal Medical Service) scheme. The scheme is designed to allow medical staff to test different ideas for delivering and improving health care with a focus on local requirements. The scheme is now fully adopted

2003

Teaching area and 2 further consultation rooms added to the surgery complex. The number of partners increased to 5

2004

Surgery introduces technology to link with the local district general hospital. This link allows the surgeryto receive laboratory tests electronically

2005

Choose and Book scheme piloted before being fully adopted. This allows you to arrange appointments for referred medical treatments while with your doctor at the surgery

2006

Surgery installs a secure online system (using EMIS Access, a nationally recognised patient record management system) so patients can book appointments and order prescriptions
Touch-screen arrivals system introduced

2009

Number of doctors at the practice reaches 10

Second screen for touch-screen arrivals system added

2010

Introduction of automated telephone system to allow appointments to be booked/cancelled 24/7
